The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) is an independent study centre located in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. It was created in 1995 as a joint venture between the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the University of Neuchâtel, the City and State of Neuchatel.

Using a multi-disciplinary approach CIES provides research, top-level education and consulting services to the sports world with the aim of understanding the complexities of sport in today's society and improving how it is governed and managed across all sports.

As an international centre, CIES has a qualified and diversified staff and continually expands its partnerships with individuals, universities and sports organisations around the globe.

Our mission

In CIES we encourage continual progress and sustainable development in the management of sport around the world. Our approach is academic and multi-disciplinary, focusing on in-depth research and education. Through our international network, we go out into the sports world and enable our partners by building a community in which they can learn from and teach one another. We promote on-going exchange between those involved in the practical management of sport and those involved in its academic study. We provide solutions based on research and experience that can be adapted to local realities.
