THE GETULIO VARGAS FOUNDATION BECOMES THE FOURTEENTH PARTNER OF CIES

The Fundacão Getulio Vargas (FGV) and CIES signed last week a partnership contract with a view to organising the FIFA/CIES Sports Management Programme in Brazil as from 2011.

Partner of CIES since 2010, the Universidad Metropolitana de Caracas (UNIMET) has officially opened the enrolment period for the 1st edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme of sport management. The courses will start in September 2010. It worth emphasizing that, in Venezuela, the project is financially supported by two promoters, namely the football club Deportivo Petare and the firm GZ Gerencia Deportiva Internacional CA.

More than 50 delegates have participated in the 2nd Seminar of the International University Network organised at Port Elizabeth (South Africa) under the patronage of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), partner since 20007.The objective of this meeting was to evaluate the FIFA/CIES Management Programme, to share experiences and best practices and to define the major issues for the development of the Network for the years to come. 

New graduates in Costa Rica

The 19 students who graduated from the second edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme of Sport Management received their certificate during a lively ceremony held at the School of Physical Education and Sports of the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) in San José.

Fifth edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme in Senegal

Partner of CIES since 2006, the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) in Dakar (Senegal) has officially launched the 5th edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management. The courses will start in October 2010.

Partner of CIES since 2010, the Universidad King Juan Carlos (URJC) and the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) have officially launched the 1st edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme of sport management. The courses will start in November 2010.

AN ALUMNI OF THE FIFA/CIES PROGRAMME BECOMES DIRECTOR OF SPORTS

Augustin Berry Moya, ex football player and alumni of the first FIFA/CIES Programme in Costa Rica, was appointed as the new Director of the Costa Rican Institute of Sports and Leisure (ICODER) last week.

The announcement was made by Giselle Goyenaga, Minister of Sports, who explained that Augustin Berry had been selected among 27 candidates for his wealth of experience in sport administration.

Seventh edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme in Argentina

 The Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) opened the seventh edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme in Sport Management in Buenos Aires last week. The 50 students – coming from Argentina, Equator, Panama, Peru, Colombia and Spain, and from various sporting horizons (football, athletics, rugby, basketball, boxing, tennis, grass hockey, taekwondo, physical education) – will attend classes in finance, marketing, sponsorship, law, event management, management and communication until next December.
