The CIES coordinators seminar took place on 18 and 19 August at FIFA Headquarters in Zurich. It offered participants an opportunity to discuss their responsibilities and to make many suggestions to improve the work of the FIFA/CIES International University Network.
Opened in the presence of Markus Kattner, FIFA Deputy Secretary General, Bertrand Reeb, CIES President, Vincent Schatzmann, CIES Secretary General, Christoph Schmidt, Head of the Office of the FIFA Secretary General and Cyril Loisel, FIFA Head of Development, the seminar brought together coordinators from all the academic partners of the Network. Participants discussed various issues such as the current environment of sports management, sponsorship prospects for the FIFA/CIES Programme, links with academic, government and public institutions and the balance of duties between the partner universities of the Network and the CIES local coordinators.
Markus Kattner emphasized that FIFA grants particular importance to CIES activities and intends to develop other joint projects. The CIES President declared that such seminars play an essential role: "This is no time to rest on our laurels. Thanks to your remarks, suggestions and questions, we will be able to improve ourselves together".
The discussions also focused on the themes which will be debated during the 3rd Seminar of the FIFA/CIES International University Network, which will be held in Buenos Aires in April 2012.
