FIFA MASTER ALUMNI - WHERE ARE THEY NOW? - MARIE HYOJUNG SHIN

Marie Hyojung Shin

Current Position: Team Leader, UN Migration (IOM)

Year of graduation: 2019 (19th edition)

Nationality: Korean

What does your current role involve?

I joined the Immigration and Border Management Division within UN Migration (IOM) in January 2020 after working in sport for more than 5 years. I am currently leading projects in 8 different countries in Europe which will expand to 21 countries by 2023.

My role as Team Leader is to provide effective daily supervision, oversight and management of our projects in Europe. I also work closely with government ministries and embassies to ensure legal migration which is with integrity and in compliance with the regulations provided for all migrants.

Which aspects of the FIFA Master course have helped you most in your career?

The international element is one of the biggest strengths of the FIFA Master.  By working and living together with my class who were from around the world, I gained a deeper understanding of a diverse range of cultures. This experience was invaluable to my career working with migrants from 50+ different countries.

What advice would you give to future students on the course?

Enjoy every moment of the FIFA Master. Please do not worry about not being able to find a job immediately after your graduation. However, always be prepared, so when the right opportunities come, you can immediately spot them. If you need someone to talk to about your career, don’t forget that you have the whole FIFA Master Alumni Network who will always be available to help you!
