FIFA MASTER ALUMNI - WHERE ARE THEY NOW? - DIEGO COMPAIRE

Diego Compaire

Current Position: Director of Live Content Partnerships and Operations at ELEVEN Sports International

Year of graduation: 2009 (9th Edition)

Nationality: Italian and Argentinean

What does your current role involve?

As Director of Live Content Partnerships and Operations, I am responsible for developing and implementing the strategy of the company in terms of live sports content partnerships acquisition, retention and renewal for elevensports.com. I am also in charge of all content production, operations and delivery for both ELEVEN’s B2B and B2C business. Having commenced this role at MyCujoo (a sports live streaming company, co-founded by my fellow 9th Edition FIFA Master Alumni, Pedro Presa, and his brother João), already before its merger with ELEVEN Sports, I have lead the team that built from scratch the relations with sports rights holders and delivered more than 80,000 live sports events since MyCujoo’s launch in 2015. We can now count almost 200 live content contractual partnerships with sports confederations, national associations, league associations and regional federations across all continents of the world.

Following the launch of FIFA+ in early 2022, and due to ELEVEN’s involvement in this project, the team which I lead has been commissioned with the great responsibility of populating the platform with an unprecedented volume of live football from around the world, working directly with FIFA and its Member Associations.

Which aspects of the FIFA Master course have helped you most in your career?

I would like to name two aspects. The first is the FIFA Master programme’s prestige, which was a very valuable asset at the start of my career working for international sports organisations. I had experience working for professional football clubs in Argentina, but I believe that completing the FIFA Master provided me with a more international outlook of the sports industry and also the credibility needed to be hired in my first role in Europe (at Sportfive International).

The second aspect is the network of talented and supportive alumni, who occupy the most diverse - and sometimes key positions - across the sports industry. This certainly helps in building relationships and accelerating processes.

What advice would you give to future students on the course?

Take advantage of every single moment. It is going to be an incredible year, maybe the best year of your life. Learn not only from every single lecturer, guest speaker and field visit, but also from your own classmates and the alumni that you might meet during your studies. All of these combined will provide you with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on the world, and sports industry. It is key to take the most out of such a unique melting pot.

Finally, do not undervalue the social experience. Bond with your classmates as much as you can and build trustful relationships. Many of them will become your friends for life, and many others might become relevant contacts in your professional careers.
