CIES and FIBA team up for new and improved international migration report

The International Centre for the Study of Sport (CIES) has once again teamed up with FIBA to bring the second International Basketball Migration Report (IBMR), which provides an insight into the migratory trends of the sport.

While the first edition of the IBMR (published in 2012) covered the calendar year 2011, this year's report has been reformatted to cover the basketball season from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013.

Combining FIBA's knowledge and data on international transfers with the renowned expertise of the CIES Observatory, the IBMR focuses on the international migration of players per basketball season. During the course of the 2012-13 season, a total of 6,565 transfers involving 5,178 players have taken place.

The IBMR also extends its analysis to profile and compare 16 national and international leagues (compared to 12 in 2012) across a wide range of parameters.

A new section entitled "League comparison" uses different player criteria (age and height; foreign players; U21 players; turnover of players within teams/leagues; stability of players at clubs/leagues within a country) to compare and contrast 12 different leagues.

"International leagues", another new section, looks at the leading international leagues that are the NBA, WNBA, Euroleague and EuroLeague Women.

The report also includes a page on FIBA agents, to examine the evolution since 2010-11, while the section 'League profile' has been enhanced to offer an even more in-depth look at each league than in 2012.
