CIES signs a partnership agreement with the Higher School of Economics in Moscow

The Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Moscow and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) have just signed a partnership agreement to organise the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management.

HSE was founded in 1992 to meet the challenges arising from the new economic and political situation of Russia and is considered to be one of the best public universities in the country. With this signature, it has become the sixteenth partner in the FIFA/CIES International University Network.

Focusing its activities on the values of freedom, transparency and innovation, HSE has the objective of promoting the competitiveness of Russia internationally by offering top-quality training programmes and undertaking spearhead research projects in fields related to socio-economics, humanities, communication, mathematics and computer science.

CIES president Bertrand Reeb is delighted with this new partnership: “We are very pleased to welcome a new partner to the FIFA/CIES Network. There are huge universal challenges involved in sport management. For us, HSE is the ideal partner to meet those challenges and contribute to the training of sport managers at national level.”

For his part, HSE Vice-Rector Dr Sergey Erofeev considers that “Launching a joint study programme in sport management represents a breakthrough for Russia. Developed by the International Centre for Sports Studies based in Switzerland and by the Higher School of Economics in Russia, this Programme is supported by FIFA. Its objective is not only to ensure widespread use of best experiences in Russia but also to link the training of sport managers in our country to best practice worldwide. The cooperation between two leaders in modern education will make it possible to create a unique sport management school in Russia and graduates will be able to support the success of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and of other major sport events.”

The FIFA/CIES sport management Programme will allow students to acquire fundamental skills in sport management (law, management, communication, sport event organisation, marketing, sponsorship and finance). The Programme will also offer participants the opportunity to attend talks given by international experts on various aspects of sport today.

The FIFA/CIES International University Network is today active in sixteen countries i.e. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Peru, Poland, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.
