The students of the 21st edition of the FIFA Master arrived in Leicester on the weekend of 19th/20th September 2020 ready to begin their academic journey on the course. However, in order to comply with current regulations, the class were first required to complete a quarantine period in their halls of residence.

As part of this initial period off-campus, a special online Induction event was organized on Monday 21st September to welcome the postgraduate students to Leicester for the opening of the Humanities of Sport module at De Montfort University.

After attendance over the next 14 days in online tutorials, lectures and webinars to complete these quarantine requirements, the class were then able to begin face-to-face campus based teaching on Monday 5th October.

The FIFA Master course Scientific Committee are extremely proud of the 21st edition class for fully respecting these early regulations, but which were necessary to ensure the safe start of the Master for 2020/21.

Notably, this academic year the class will be the first ever edition of the FIFA Master to include more female candidates than men. This is an excellent recruitment result and one which is welcomed by the course team, and the partner institutions of De Montfort University, SDA Bocconi and University of Neuchatel. It also follows curriculum development work in recent years with an even greater focus on issues such as equality, women's sport, female leadership and inclusion in international sport, during the academic year.

As with previous editions, the class have again come together from a wide range of countries, with Australia, Kenya, USA, Argentina, South Africa, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Bhutan, Sweden, Canada, Turkey, Jordan, Senegal, Egypt, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Brazil, Croatia, Cameroon, India, Russia and Singapore all represented for 2020/21.

Despite the recent global disruption, the course Scientific Committee were delighted to see the new cohort so prepared and motivated to begin their studies, and are very much looking forward to working with them as they begin their new academic journey together.
