FIFA MASTER ALUMNI – WHERE ARE THEY NOW? – DAVID FOWLER

David Fowler

Current Position: Marketing Director, MyCujoo

Year of graduation: 2005 (5th edition)

Nationality: British

What does your current role involve?

I joined MyCujoo, a live streaming and community platform dedicated to football, in 2018 after more than ten years in the commercial division of FIFA. We are a company driven by a strong sense of purpose. This purpose is to empower football rights owners at all levels of the game, including players, to build and connect with their fan communities.

My role as Marketing Director is generally to help to guide the organisation towards achieving our short- and long-term goals. As the first marketing hire at MyCujoo, much of my focus in my first year with the company has been on helping to build our marketing and data analytics capabilities.

Which aspects of the FIFA Master course have helped you most in your career?

The year that I spent studying on the FIFA Master was the most important year of my career. The course opened my mind to all corners of the sports industry and gave me the knowledge to help me to make informed choices about where I wanted to take my career in sport.

I consider myself very fortunate to be part of the alumni. The alumni network is the most important asset of the programme. There are so many people that I can count on for advice and support. I have formed so many close friendships with people from all over the world and with whom I stay in touch with regularly. I know that more or less wherever in the world I travel, I will be able to drop in on someone from the network for a beer or a coffee.

I have always tried to be as open and supportive to new graduates as those who welcomed me into the network were. Much of the credit for the strength of our network must go to the trailblazers of the first few editions who fostered an open, collaborative and supportive alumni culture!

What advice would you give to future students on the course?

I would always advise future students to spend as much time with their classmates as possible. Lecturers, industry speakers and field visits are all highly valuable. But in the end, it is the shared experiences and the friendships that you form with your fellow students, that will live with you for a long time.

The FIFA Master is famous for bringing together students from all over the world. Spend time listening and trying to understand their perspectives especially when they don’t necessarily share your opinion! The course provides a great opportunity for you to challenge your own view on the sports industry (and life in general!).
