FIFA MASTER ALUMNI - WHERE ARE THEY NOW? - LUIS BREVE

Luis Brevé

Current Position: National Teams General Manager at Federación Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras (FENAFUTH)

Year of graduation: 2020 (20th edition)

Nationality: Honduran/American

What does your current role involve?

My current position is National Teams General Manager at Federación Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras (FENAFUTH) as well as match coordinator for CONCACAF. My role at FENAFUTH involves the planning and supervision of all national team activities for both men's and women's teams in all age categories. The role entails overseeing all administrative procedures and budget allocation for the various activities. I am also the team manager for the senior team and I travel with the team for all training camps, friendly matches and all official competitions. I prepare all travel, accommodation, training and other logistics arrangements for the entire delegation.

For my role with CONCACAF, it is a freelance position and I mostly work during CONCACAF Champions League games as a match coordinator when my work schedule allows. This role focuses on teams and competition related matters as well as the actual match operations. Here, I lead all preparation meetings, distribute equipment and documents, supervise training sessions to ensure they go smoothly and ensure that the stadium and field of play comply with all requirements. On the day of the match, I coordinate all transportation and protocol arrangements, prepare dressing rooms, go over the PA script and run the official programme from arrival at the stadium to kick off. I also work closely with the refereeing team and match commissioner to make sure the match goes smoothly and take notes of any incidents during the game to then report back to CONCACAF.

Which aspects of the FIFA Master course have helped you most in your career?

The FIFA Master course was a fantastic experience for me. The classes, guest lecturers, field visits and interaction with experts in the industry opens your mind to so many new experiences and you acquire an immense amount of knowledge. The relationships that you establish with your classmates as well as with course alumni is also vital for creating new friendships and possibly even working relationships for new projects in the future. Looking back at the curriculum, I have to say that what I studied during the SDA Bocconi module in Italy has been what I have applied the most to my current daily activities. I also have to make special mention to the subject of FIFA player eligibility criteria which my Final Project group focused on as I have since dealt with player naturalization and switches of national team allegiances with youth teams here at FENAFUTH.

What advice would you give to future students on the course?

I would advise all students to keep an open mind, to put all preconceptions of the sports industry aside and to fully immerse yourself in the FIFA Master experience. Not only the academic schedule, but also the connections you will form with your classmates while studying on the course. Attend matches and sporting events together, take advantage of the short time you have in the United Kingdom, Italy and Switzerland to learn from their specific sporting cultures and travel as much as you can. Networking is key, especially in the sports industry. During the programme you will interact with hundreds of industry experts, FIFA Master alumni and lecturers. Make a good impression and get their contact information. Perhaps the greatest value of the FIFA Master is the opportunity it gives you to grow your personal network, so make the most of it.
