Football Executive Programme Continues: Kick off for Governance module

Following completion of the first module in September on Strategic Planning and Leadership, on Thursday 8th November 2018 the second module of the Football Executive Programme focused on the topic of Governance, at CONMEBOL's headquarters in Luque, Paraguay.

This Programme is specifically designed for General Secretaries and staff of the 10 Member Associations and was set up thanks to a cooperation between CONMEBOL, FIFA and the CIES (International Centre for Sports Studies).

The first speaker on this Governance module was Prof. Denis Oswald, Director of CIES. During his opening speech he explained, "Governance must be democratic, efficient and must have responsibilities. Today, no organisation escapes having good governance and that is why FIFA put in place its Member Federations, rules and practices of governance. This prevents crises, because despite being a private organization, everyone is watching us. Transparency, integrity, democracy, development, solidarity, and mechanisms of control and balance are our basic principles of governance."

Gonzalo Belloso, Director of Development at CONMEBOL, welcomed the participants, encouraging them to take advantage of the postgraduate degree and the presence of the illustrious speakers contributing to the module. "We are very happy that today they are in the House of South American Soccer. At CONMEBOL we look for the constant development of soccer and for that it is very important to be formed by high quality experts like the ones we have here today".

Further sessions will follow until 11th November by highly renowned and well respected experts both from CIES (such as Dr Kevin Tallec Marston, Research Fellow & Academic Project Manager), FIFA and CONMEBOL, so keep following the journey of this second module of the Football Executive Programme for further news.

The next Law module is scheduled for February, and will be followed by further modules on Communication, Marketing, Sponsorship, Commercial, Audiovisual Rights and Finance. The programme will then conclude with the seventh module which will be on Development, Operations and Infrastructures.

A FIFA/CONMEBOL/CIES participatory certificate will be awarded to all participants upon completion of each module and a FIFA/CONMEBOL/CIES course diploma will be distributed to the General Secretaries who complete the full course.
