Homes of Cricket and Rugby Union Welcome FIFA Master 15th edition Class

A busy day of London field visits for the FIFA Master 15th edition class began with a morning visit to Lord’s cricket ground – the spiritual home of cricket. Here, the FIFA Master postgraduates had the opportunity to learn about the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which was founded in 1787, and why Lord’s is the ground that every cricketer dreams of playing the game. The visit included presentations on the history of Lord’s and how it maintains the important balance of preserving its fine traditions with the need to embrace modernization. The class also had the chance to visit the famous main pavilion Long Room, player dressing rooms and also the iconic Lord’s media centre.

In the afternoon, the imposing 82,000 seat Twickenham stadium welcomed the class. Twickenham, which is the home of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), is the largest dedicated rugby union venue in the world and will host the 2015 Rugby World Cup Final. On the afternoon of the visit, the venue was busy preparing for England’s important schedule of autumn international fixtures which will be played against New Zealand, Australia, Samoa and South Africa over the next few weeks.

FIFA Master Module Co-ordinator James Panter said, “I would like to thank both Lord’s and Twickenham for making us feel so welcome. We very much value the help and support of all the venues and organisations we visit as part of our field visit programme.”

The FIFA Master online application form for the 16th edition (2015-2016) is now available! The deadline to apply is 12 noon, Central European Time, on Friday 9th January 2014.
