India: Launch of the first Pillai/FIFA/CIES Executive Programme

The Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research (Pillai) launched the first edition of the Pillai/FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Sports Management on 14 September in Mumbai.

40 students from all over the country attended the first Pillai/FIFA/CIES Executive Programme courses on the campus of the Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research located in the Maharashtra district of Mumbai.

The inauguration ceremony marked the culmination of fruitful discussions and cooperation between the university's management and CIES, as Franav Pillai, Director of the Executive Programme, commented: “We are proud to be a part of the FIFA/CIES University Network and happy with the tremendous response garnered for the very first edition of the Programme. We received over 300 applications from across Asia and after a rigorous admission process were able to select a cohort of 40 enthusiastic professionals with diverse profiles across all sports for this academic year. I am confident that the programme will enrich the participants to be catalysts of positive change in the football and sporting industry across the world”.

Under the aegis of FIFA, the Programme will allow students to familiarise themselves with the generalist tools of football and sports management during seven months of studies. In this respect, Cinzia Catalfamo, FIFA Manager of Global Academic Network and Interagency Partnerships, believes that the role of education is essential in a world where the football and sports environment is constantly changing: "There are many challenges: new tools for broadcasting, new ways of consuming sports entertainment among young people, the implementation of gender equality, digital marketing, big data and e-sports. Football and sports managers must be able to understand the world in which their organisation operates. This can only be achieved through training”.

Roland Chavillon, CIES representative, praised the quality of Pillai's work: "The University has fully understood our objectives. It has already integrated into the FIFA/CIES University Network, which now includes 17 universities. Our cooperation will contribute to the training of a new generation of football and sports managers in India. This partnership gives us great satisfaction.”
