Memorandum of Cooperation signed with the Venezuelan Football Federation

The Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET), the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on 28 June at the FVF headquarters in Caracas.

FVF President Jorge Giménez welcomed the UNIMET and CIES delegations to the Federation's headquarters to sign a document that aims to strengthen the anchoring of the FIFA/CIES International Programme in Sport Management to the realities of local sport and particularly football. The Memorandum also aims to develop other short training activities, such as conferences and workshops, which will be designed to address current issues of importance to Venezuelan football.

Speaking on the collaboration and how beneficial it will be for the future of football in the country, Jorge Giménez said, "Football is undoubtedly an area of opportunity, development and job creation, and it is also the passion of many young people. In our country there is a lot of talent to make it grow, in all its dimensions. That is why we want to be close to initiatives like this one, to collaborate with them, to generate synergies and open doors, so that the boys and girls who come out of this training will be, in the very near future, the professionals who will lead our football to achieve the goals and dreams that we all have for it."

UNIMET, for its part, expressed its satisfaction at being part of this cooperation agreement with CIES and FVF, where it will be able to contribute its expertise in specialised professional training processes related to the world of sport. María José González, General Director of CENDECO (Centro de Extensión, Desarrollo Ejecutivo y Consultoría Organizacional) at the Universidad Metropolitana, underlined the importance of uniting efforts and sharing values in order to consolidate high level educational programmes in the field of sport and, in particular, football in Venezuela.

Finally, Vincent Schatzmann, General Secretary of the CIES, was delighted with the cooperation and how it further reinforces the links between the world of academia and sport. He explained, "The signing of a cooperation agreement between the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), the Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET) and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) is important to strengthen our academic activities in Venezuela. We have been present in the country since 2010 as part of the UNIMET/FIFA/CIES International Programme in Sport Management. In this regard, many people working for national sport and football have participated in our courses. This new agreement will allow us to respond even better to local realities in order to help the next generation of managers to face the many challenges that sports organisations will have to face.”

UNIMET has been CIES' academic partner in Venezuela since 2010. At the global level, CIES has partnerships in 19 countries in Africa, Central America, Latin America, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and the Middle East. Nearly 5,500 students have participated in the FIFA/CIES International Programme, of which more than 80% are active in sport and 60% in football.
