Official opening ceremony held in the United Kingdom for the 23rd edition of the FIFA Master

On Tuesday 20th September 2022, the students of the 23rd edition of the FIFA Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport were welcomed to the start of a new academic year by CIES Director and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, Prof. Denis Oswald, during a special opening ceremony held at De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester. The FIFA Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport was recently ranked as the No.1 Postgraduate Sport Management course in Europe for a record tenth time in the new 2022 SportBusiness rankings.

The new class will be based in the UK for lectures at DMU’s International Centre for Sports History and Culture as they begin the first Humanities of Sport module of the course. Following completion of this first stage of their studies, the class will then move to Italy in January where they will undertake the second module in Sports Management at the SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan. The class will then later move to Switzerland for the final Sports Law module at the University of Neuchâtel Law Faculty. Overall co-ordination is provided by the Centre International d’Etude du Sport (CIES) and the course is endorsed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Over the next few months, the students will attend a mixture of academic lectures, industry guest speaker sessions and specially organised field visits to some of the biggest names in world sport as they complete the FIFA Master journey until graduation next summer.

WanXin Chen who is from Singapore and part of the new class said, “Obviously a strong passion for sports is a common denominator among the class. But I dare say that it is our individually diverse backgrounds, open-mindedness and proactiveness that have contributed most to the growing sense of camaraderie. This sets us up for an exciting 10-months adventure ahead, where we look forward to forging life-long friendships and having the chance to attend really interesting field trips!"

Jai Ganatra from India added, “The first two weeks have passed rapidly, fully immersing us in the programme, seemingly giving us a snapshot experience already of what the year has to bring. The course directors and lecturers are adept in their fields and immensely experienced, conveying that experience passionately and feeding the curiosity we arrived with. Representing 22 different nationalities, our peers possess incredibly diverse experiences and have as much, if not more, to contribute to the learning experience.

We are all fans of Sport, so the opportunities we've had to visit some of sport's most iconic venues have left us yearning for more, for which we're grateful to the very competent team of coordinators working to make our multi-city experience a journey never to forget."

The CIES, De Montfort University, SDA Bocconi School of Management and the University of Neuchâtel congratulate all members of the new 23rd edition class on gaining a place on the programme and wish them every success in their course studies.
