Olympic Gold Medallist Emma Twigg announced as Patron of the FIFA Master 22nd edition class

The CIES and FIFA Master course Scientific Committee are proud to announce that Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 Gold Medal rower, Emma Twigg, will be the FIFA Master 22nd edition class Patron.

Emma, who is from New Zealand, had previously competed at the Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games before storming her way to Olympic victory in the women’s single sculls event last summer.

A former World Champion too, Emma is also a member of the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) Athletes' Commission and in the 2022 Queen's Birthday and Platinum Jubilee Honours, was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to rowing.

This will be a particularly special milestone, not only for the 22nd edition class, but also for CIES and the FIFA Master partner universities of De Montfort University (UK), SDA Bocconi (Italy) and the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland) as Emma is herself a graduate from the 15th edition of the FIFA Master. Accordingly, she will be the first student since the course was established in 2000 to return as a class Patron during the graduation ceremony held in the historic surroundings of the Château de Neuchâtel.

Emma, who worked in the Games Planning and Coordination department at the International Olympic Committee after completing the FIFA Master in 2015, was also a special guest speaker last year at the ‘FIFA Master 20 Years: Sport & Future’ conference where she discussed the important theme of career transition for athletes. We are delighted to be able to welcome Emma back as our very special guest in what will be an important day for our graduating students and their families.
