Two FIFA/CIES Network scholarships for the next edition of the FIFA Master!

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) has decided to increase the number of full scholarships offered to alumni of the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management to two to allow alumni to apply and then attend the 16th edition of the FIFA Master which will begin in September 2015.

This scholarship is awarded by CIES with the objective of strengthening the links between the students of the FIFA/CIES Programme in Sport Management and the FIFA Master. It also aims at reinforcing the feeling of belonging of the Programme alumni within the CIES community.

Diego Brenes (University of Costa Rica), who received the scholarship in 2013, explains: “Not only did the FIFA/CIES Programme give me the opportunity to become familiar with many sport management techniques, but it also allowed me to submit an application for the FIFA Master, to win a scholarship and to take part in the curriculum. What a course! What experiences! I can only congratulate CIES for building bridges between its different education programmes. This offers us new perspectives, it is really motivating!”

Each Scholarship (CHF 45,000.-) is intended to cover the registration costs for the FIFA Master as well as all or part of the living expenses (in particular accommodation, travel expenses, etc.) of the beneficiary linked to his/her participation in the FIFA Master.

The Scholarship winners are selected among the candidates by CIES based on proposals from the FIFA Master Scientific Committee.

Alumni from the FIFA/CIES International University Network who wish to apply for the scholarship must comply with the following requirements before submitting their application:

  • The alumnus must have successfully completed the FIFA/CIES Sports Management programme and must have been awarded the corresponding diploma/certificate (regardless of the year in which the corresponding diploma/certificate was awarded).
  • The alumnus must have met all his/her financial obligations with respect to the University where he/she was awarded the diploma/certificate.
  • The alumnus must comply with the other criteria as defined in the rules concerning the FIFA Master (see http://www.cies.ch/en/education/fifa-master/apply-to-the-fifa-master/criteria-for-applying/). Among these rules: The alumnus must have obtained a university degree, must have an excellent command of the English language (spoken, written, comprehension) and must have professional experience.

Candidates must comply with the procedure implemented for the FIFA Master and must submit their applications within the stipulated deadlines.

Above and beyond successfully completing the FIFA Master, the beneficiary will also be required to report on his/her experience by writing articles on the academic and leisure activities of the FIFA Master during the 11 months spent in Leicester, Milan and Neuchâtel.

Seven FIFA/CIES Programme alumni have already received various scholarships to attend the FIFA Master, some of them under the aegis of the FIFA/CIES network scholarship. They are Oleksandr Kucheriavyi (National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine), Charisse Bacchus (University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago), Zarina Bahdur (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa), Diego Brenes (University of Costa Rica), Safia Abdel Dayem (University of Cairo, Egypt), Rosario Cieza (Universidad Católica Argentina) and Sthefânia Lacerda (Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil).
