Two members of the FIFA/CIES University Network appointed as General Coordinators for the FIFA World Cup

We were delighted to hear that Michael Boys and Luis Castro, two members of the FIFA/CIES University Network, have been appointed as General Coordinators for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

Michael Boys, who is CIES coordinator in Chile and head of the event management module for the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme organised by Universidad Santo Tomás, will be responsible for the matches organised in Saint Petersburg.

In addition, Luis Castro, who is an alumnus from the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Argentina and head of the event management module at Universidad Católica Argentina, will work in Ekaterinburg.

The role of the General Coordinators is essential. They are tasked with managing and responding to unexpected incidents which can happen either before, during or after matches have been scheduled. Also, they have the authority to make any final decisions. In that regard, before the competition they will attend intensive workshops convened by FIFA in order to ensure that everyone complies with a uniform set of principles and guidelines.

We send all our congratulations to Michael and Luis. We wish them great success in Russia where they will supervise the organisation of matches which will be watched by hundreds of millions of people all over the world.
