Twenty-eight Legends from the world of football gathered in Switzerland for The Next 90 (in English only)

The Next 90 is an educational programme organised by FIFA Legends, and more precisely by Javier Ceppi, Senior Player & Promotion Player Manager at FIFA and his Team, in partnership with CIES to guide former players through their career transition. It aims to provide former female and male footballers with the skills, tools and confidence they need to succeed in the next stages of their lives after they have hung up their boots.

After completing three online modules, The Next 90 participants met in person for the first-time last week at the Home of FIFA (Zurich) to attend Module 4 of the programme: “Be strategic.”

Thirteen female and fifteen male former players from more than twenty nationalities spent 3.5 days discussing strategy from different perspectives and how to apply these skills to the world of business and also to their own personal projects.

The module was accompanied by social activities such as a football match and a visit to the FIFA Museum where one of the participants (Heather O’Reilly) was able to mark her FIFA World Cup title by lifting the trophy for the second time.

Later, the participants received a surprise visit from Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, and had the chance to participate in an inspiring Q&A session with him.

Finally, an exciting live talk organised by the FIFA Museum and moderated by Pascal Zuberbühler allowed two of The Next 90 football legends - Josephine Henning (Germany) and Alexi Lalas (United States) - to share insights about their playing careers and now transition away from the pitch with the audience. The third speaker was CIES' Head of Executive Education Matteo Tassi who brought his educational expertise to the topic.

After a well-deserved summer break, the programme will resume online in September with Module 5 (“Run a project”) which will provide participants with a practical toolkit to acquire the essentials of project management.
