A new CIES coordinator in Trinidad and Tobago

Since 1 April 2015, Charisse Bacchus has taken on the responsibilities of local CIES coordinator in Trinidad and Tobago. She has taken over from Charisse Broome, who successfully held the position from the signature of the partnership agreement between the University of the West Indies (UWI) and CIES in 2009.

Charisse Bacchus, an alumna of the FIFA/CIES sport management Programme organised with the management department of the UWI, was awarded her FIFA Master’s Degree in July 2014. Prior to that, she studied at the University of Kansas where she was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree (in sport management, social welfare and sociology) in 2007.

Charisse is also an accomplished athlete who proved her worth both on the athletics field (with a personal best of 6.62 m in the long jump and 4790 points in the heptathlon) and as a member of various organisations (University of Kansas athletics team, NCAA All American in 2005 and 2006, Trinidad and Tobago national athletics team, All Big 12 Conference Honors, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Board of the Trinidad and Tobago National Athletics Association).

The new CIES coordinator has a professional background as an assistant to the sports director at the University of Kansas (marketing) and a Sport Service Officer for the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (project in the field of development of sport and encouragement to practise sport). She is also involved in organising sports events at the national and international levels.

When she finds time to relax, Charisse enjoys dancing (ballet and urban). She also enjoys reading and spending… a few hours at the beach.

“I am very excited to become the CIES coordinator in my country. In fact, the UWI/FIFA/CIES Programme provided me with the ideal passport to the managerial aspects of sport. This appointment will also allow me to give something in return and, above all, to stay connected to the FIFA/CIES Network.”

We thank Charisse Broome, our former coordinator, for the excellent work she has done over the last six years and wish every success to “the new Charisse” in her duties that are essential for the development of our activities in Trinidad and Tobago.
