An alumnus from the NMU/FIFA/CIES Executive Programme has been appointed as Coach of the South African National Women’s Rugby Team

Stanley Raubenheimer, who was awarded the NMU/FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Sports Management in 2014, has just been appointed as coach of the South African national women’s rugby team. He will take charge of the team for their forthcoming tour of the United Kingdom in November 2018.

Stanley is one of the most reputed coaches in the South African Rugby Academy which is located in Stellenbosch (Western Cape). During his impressive career as a coach, he has also made his knowledge and experience available to the Boland Rugby Academy as well as other sports institutions in South Africa.

The NMU/FIFA/CIES Executive Programme alumnus is delighted with his new position: "I am very fortunate to have this opportunity to take on important responsibilities in such a popular sport in South Africa. My work with the national women’s rugby team is also a great honour, at a time when women are gaining increasing importance in sport here and throughout the world", he said.

Stanley’s role will be all the more important in view of the Women’s Rugby World Cup which will take place in 2021.

Going back in time to remember the year he attended classes at NMU, Stanley reflected, "The four weeks I spent in Port Elizabeth left unforgettable memories. The quality of the classes taught, great people skills of the teachers, intense discussions with my classmates. What a pleasure it was to be part of all that! I think it is great that FIFA allows managers from sports other than football to perfect their knowledge. Thank you and well done!"

Congratulations to Stanley and we send our best wishes for future success to the South African women’s rugby team.
