CIES / FIFA Master 13th Edition visit All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon

An extensive programme of field visits at leading sporting organisations across Europe began on Monday 24 September 2012 with a trip to the famous All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon, for the new 2012-2013 FIFA Master class.

Wet weather conditions failed to dampen spirits as the class had the opportunity to tour the All England Club grounds and learn at first hand about the history and evolution of the Wimbledon Championships since the first tennis tournament in July 1877. The morning also included visits to the world famous No. 1 and Centre Courts.

The afternoon provided the chance to view the collections held in the excellent Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum. The group, who had started their Humanities of Sport module teaching at the International Centre for Sports History and Culture, De Montfort University, the week before the visit, then had the opportunity to learn more about the business and marketing aspects of the Wimbledon Championships in a series of presentations arranged by the All England Club.

The CIES and De Montfort University would both like to take this opportunity to thank the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Museum and Education departments for their help and support in providing such an enjoyable and informative day.
