CIES SIGNS A PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT IN LEBANON!

CIES signed a partnership agreement with Notre Dame University (NDU) in Zouk Mosbeh, near Beirut, last week. This academic institution, which benefits from an excellent reputation in Lebanon, will organise the FIFA/CIES Sport Management Programme.

During a signature ceremony held on the main campus of the University, NDU President Fr Walid Moussa emphasized: “The international dimension offered by cooperation with FIFA and CIES and the need for NDU to continue the education of sport stakeholders in Lebanon, both at physical education level and from the viewpoint of administration and ethics”.

Dr Ziad Mansour, representing the Minister for Youth and Sport, thanked NDU for its pioneering initiative in training future managers. This meets an essential need not only of Lebanese sport, but also of sport throughout the Middle East.

Speaking on behalf of CIES, Vincent Monnier welcomed the new cooperation which will make it possible to develop an academic project in a country where sport is not the “number 1” societal phenomenon and where administration of sports organisations is most often still in an embryonic state.

CIES also explained the objectives of its sport management Programme, organised under the auspices of FIFA, to many representatives of Lebanese sport.

Raffaele Poli, as Head of the CIES Football Observatory, then addressed the theme of sport, management and research. He emphasized the need to base managerial strategies on reliable data, particularly in light of the complexity of the world in which sport organisations exist today.

Notre Dame University

Notre Dame University—Louaize (NDU) is a private, Lebanese non-profit Catholic institution of higher education which adopts the American system of education. As a Catholic institution inspired by the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Maronite Order of the Holy Virgin Mary, NDU seeks to provide comprehensive quality education that fosters excellence in scholarship, lifelong learning, enlightened citizenship, human solidarity, moral integrity and belief in God.

NDU offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programs in 8 faculties: Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design, Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, and Faculty of Political Science, Public Administration and Diplomacy.

NDU started as a community college in 1978 in collaboration with Beirut University College (presently Lebanese American University) and became a fully-recognized institution of higher education in 1987. It currently has around 7,000 enrolled students in its three campuses: the main campus in Zouk Mosbeh, the north campus in Barsa, and the Shouf campus in Deir el Kamar.
