Costa Rica: important appointment for the CIES coordinator

Margarita Echeverria Bermudez, the CIES coordinator in Costa Rica, has been appointed Diversity Officer by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF).

With eight other colleagues, Margarita’s primary responsibility will be to coordinate the monitoring and elimination of any racist or discriminatory behavior during matches. In particular, she will have to ensure that the ‘Protocol for racist incidents during matches’ is implemented appropriately.

The Diversity Officers’ appointment is one of the components of the Embrace Diversity campaign, launched by CONCACAF in 2013.

“Racism and discrimination have no place in our game and the Protocol is designed to ensure that we have the mechanisms to deal with any potential incidents swiftly and systematically,” said CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb.

Congratulations to Margarita whose expertise in the field of sports law will be very useful for this important mission.
