Eight projects to compete for the second edition of the FIFA/CIES International University Network Award

Following the success of the inaugural FIFA/CIES International University Network Award last year, CIES has received eight projects for the second year of this competition. The projects submitted will be assessed by an international panel of judges, with the winning project announced in January 2012.
The FIFA/CIES International University Network Award aims to reward original and innovative work which helps to understand the phenomenon of sport at a local, national and international level. The winning project will receive a prize which includes a trip to Switzerland, a visit to both FIFA and CIES headquarters and also the opportunity for the winning group to present their project research to the postgraduate students of the FIFA Master programme during their lectures in Switzerland.
The eight projects selected by the CIES partner universities and to be assessed by the judging panel are:

  • Bahcesehir University, Istanbul, Turkey
    Caner Törün, Hasan Omay, Ece Uysaler, M. Ihsan Yilmaz
    “Social Youth Athlete Academies with Network Based Training Software”
    The application of information technology in the training of young athletes.
  • Birzeit University, Ramallah, Palestine
    Ayat Saafin, Yousef Pedersawi, Nael Deguera, Hussein Al-Sheikh
    “Recycling for Sports”
    The recycling of used tyres to create basic materials for the construction of sports facilities.
  • Cairo University, Egypt
    Fakhr El Sanhoury, Iman Gomaa, Rasha ElMaleh, Mohammed Bouardi, Ahmed Fawzy
    “Strategic Marketing Management For Teams(S) Celtic/Rangers”
    Investigation into the marketing strategy and income of some European clubs.
  • Universidad Católica Argentina, Buenos Aires

    Identify the management characteristics of professional football clubs in Venezuela and propose indicators related to the results.

    “Cómo potenciar la relación entre el club de fútbol profesional y su afición?”
    Enumerate and develop tools to reinforce the links between Spanish professional football clubs and their supporters.

As a reminder, the FIFA/CIES International University Network Award was awarded in 2011 to a work on sport and resistance (résilience in French) made by the Universidad Cátolica Argentina students.
