Peru: the International University Network has now fourteen partners!

The FIFA/CIES International University Network is continuing its progress. Under the auspices of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), the cooperation agreement with the University of San Martín de Porres (USMP) was signed in Lima on 14 August.

During a ceremony in the presence of representatives of the media, Ing Raúl Eduardo Bao García, Vice-Chancellor, Javier Quintana, Secretary-General of the FPF, and CIES signed a partnership agreement with a view of organising the FIFA/CIES Sport Management Programme as from May 2013.

“The FIFA/CIES Programme corresponds perfectly to the work logic that USMP has focused on for many years now for sport, and in particular football and volleyball”, declared Raúl Bao. “We need strong organisations to continue its development and make it a reference within our community”.

Javier Quintana paid tribute to the essential role played by FIFA in the framework of the project and confirmed that the FPF would support joint activities of the USMP and CIES in Peru.

USMP and CIES then organised an information session, with the participation of many parties involved in the Programme. In particular, Rafael Trevisán presented the experiences of the Universidad Católica Argentina, the first university to become a partner of the International University Network in 2004. He then handed over to Guillermo Ricaldoni, a Director of IMG Argentina, who made a noteworthy presentation on the different facets of sponsorship in sport.

The FIFA/CIES International University Network includes partners in 14 countries, namely Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey and Venezuela.

The University of San Martín de Porres (USMP) was founded in 1962. Over the last half-century, it has achieved a special position within the Peruvian education system thanks to the work it has done to serve the community. Today, it is a modern institution including 9 faculties offering access to 18 professional careers. USMP has over 30,000 students and 2,500 academic and administrative staff. It is the largest university in Peru and ranks among the top three private universities in the country.

The culture of the university is based on essential principles such as respect for the individual, the search for truth and excellence, integrity, an innovative and enterprising approach, protecting the environment and making a commitment to the development of the country.

Furthermore, USMP also plays a significant role in the promotion of Peruvian sport. In 2004, it founded the “Club Deportivo Universidad de San Martín de Porres” which currently plays in the Peruvian premier football league. With its University Sports Complex (“Villa Deportiva Universitaria”), it also offers the most modern sports facilities in the country.
