Sir Bobby Charlton (1937 – 2023): FIFA Master 6th Edition Course Patron

The CIES and FIFA Master course partner universities were deeply saddened at the news Manchester United Football Club Legend and England World Cup Winner, Sir Bobby Charlton, has passed away at the age of 86.

In a glittering playing career at Old Trafford, Sir Bobby scored 249 goals in 758 appearances for Manchester United between 1956 – 1973, winning The Ballon d’Or, Three First Division titles, The FA Cup and the European Cup.

At international level, he was awarded 106 caps and scored 49 goals. Sir Bobby was also a key part of the England team which lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy following their 4-2 extra-time victory over West Germany in the World Cup Final played at Wembley in 1966.

Following his retirement as a player, he would work as a Director at Manchester United for 39 years and in 1994 was knighted for his services as an ambassador for English football.

We were honoured when Sir Bobby agreed to be the FIFA Master 6th Edition Course Patron and attended the class graduation ceremony held in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, on 12th July 2006.

We send our sincere condolences to Sir Bobby’s family, friends and everybody at Manchester United Football Club during this difficult time and for the loss of England’s greatest ever player.
