South Africa: Celebrations at NMMU!

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) and CIES are continuing their cooperation with great success. They officially inaugurated the 7th edition of the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme in South Africa and awarded their diplomas to the graduates of the 2013 class last week in Port Elizabeth.

Twenty-five new students started classes during the first intensive week of the 7th Programme which will end in July 2014. The Programme will allow them to become familiar with essential concepts of management and marketing. In December, they will discover the fundamentals of finance and law. Students hail from all over South Africa but also from Namibia, Nigeria, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

NMMU Programme Coordinator Vernon Oosthuizen comments as follows: “It is essential that we open our Programme to the whole of South Africa and to neighbouring countries. In six years, we have progressed from a local Programme with students who were mostly from the Eastern Cape to a genuinely international course… We have even had students from Germany, Greece and Romania…”

Moreover, twenty-two students from the previous edition celebrated the end of classes and received their diplomas in presence of Khaya Matiso, Dean of Students, and Professor Victor Exner, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at NMMU.

Khaya Matiso emphasised the importance of sport: “It is a factor of entertainment, celebration but also social integration (…). To ensure performance in sport, we need athletes but also managers who have benefited from appropriate training. That is where NMMU and CIES, with the support of FIFA, play an essential role in which we take great pleasure and pride.

Finally, David Kappel and Yosliwa Lumka spoke on behalf of the new graduates. They said how pleased they were to have completed a high-level training programme, but also expressed their sadness at leaving their classmates and the studious yet friendly atmosphere of classes at NMMU.

In that regard, CIES wishes to emphasise the excellent work done over the last eight years by Rosa, Vernon, Denver, Debbie, Gayle, Buhle, John, Gavin, Daryl and Shona…

NMMU and CIES congratulate the students who have completed the Programme and wish them every success: Kostantinos, Heather, Buhlebethu Shane, David, Sharief Shaun, Thamsanqa, Charles, Kaamila, Oluwatoyin, Olayinka, David, Titus Haimbili, Yoliswa, Frederick Tapiwa, Luntu, Mohlala, Nkemelle, Thanduxolo, Cameron, Jonathan, Allan and Owetu.
