South Africa: Registration for the 9th NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme

A CIES partner since 2006, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) of Port Elizabeth (South Africa) has officially launched the registration process for the ninth edition of the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management to start on 7th of September 2015

The programme enjoys an excellent reputation in South Africa and in the neighbouring countries (in particular Namibia, Lesotho and Nigeria). It offers students new management tools and practical exercises adapted to the national and regional sports context. Furthermore, over the years, it has created close links with many sports entities, local governments and municipalities.

The students who participated in the different editions of the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme emphasise the strengths of the classes. Ndivhudzannyi Maifala, an alumnus of the 7th edition of the Programme, puts it as follows: "The Programme is informative, empowering, life changing and internationally recognised. On a personal level, I have benefited from it socially, making new friends and learning from them. I have also been able to improve my strengths, capabilities, expertise and self- confidence. (.). Professionally, I have gained new knowledge and skills relevant to my work."

Solomon Mudege, another alumnus who is currently working at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, comments: “I would definitely recommend the FIFA/CIES Programme in Sport Management. It is a unique course which promotes good management principles while recognising the distinctive environment within the nation in which the course is offered.”

CIES, for its part, emphasises the excellent cooperation developed with NMMU over the years. It is exemplary in terms of the attention given to student needs and to the balance between academic theory and the practical requirements of sports management.

It is worth repeating that the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme allows people from various professional and sporting horizons to familiarise themselves with modern management tools in key areas such as marketing, sponsorship, law, management, communication, finances and event management. It also offers the opportunity to attend lectures given by international experts invited by FIFA and CIES.
