Spain: Another final project materialises

David Domingo Martínez, an alumnus of the first class of the FIFA/CIES Programme organised in cooperation with Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) in Madrid and the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF), saw the conclusions of his final project materialise at Motorland-Alcañiz at the beginning of March 2015.

David Domingo Martínez, a “pioneer” of the FIFA/CIES Programme in Spain, shares the genesis of his work with us: “The project began with the idea of including a new category in the development pyramid of motor sport. In practical terms, the idea is to offer young people the opportunity to discover this sport on an off-road surface. In fact, the only option they had until now was go-karting on asphalt. In this way, budding drivers can test their talents on this very specific surface, benefit from better training facilities and finally achieve better performances in the future at championships such as off-road rallies, rally raid and autocross competitions.”

Being able to make his final project materialise is a source of great satisfaction to David: “It is no easy matter to implement this type of project. It is difficult to bring in changes or innovations in federative sports structures. This called for many hours of study, work and commitment on the part of many people, commissions and bodies involved. The technical department of the Real Federación Española de Automovilismo (RFEA) finally gave the go-ahead after a few adjustments to the initial project.”

David Domingo Martínez is totally immersed in motor sport. He is a member of various RFEA commissions and working groups, of the Federación Catalana de Automovilismo and technical secretary of Escuderia Lleida. He also exercises responsibilities as sports “juez-comisario” during trials for national and international championships such as the F1 Spanish Grand Prix which took place at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in 2014.

The members of the FIFA/CIES Network congratulate David for his vision and enthusiasm to serve the development of motor sport. Materialisation of his project is a source of satisfaction for all the partners of our academic activities in Spain.
