Spiritual home of cricket welcomes FIFA Master 13th edition

On Monday 5th November 2012, the CIES / FIFA Master 13th edition class travelled to London for a special morning visit to the iconic Lord’s cricket ground.  Home to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) since moving to the site in 1814, the FIFA Master postgraduates had the opportunity to learn about the MCC, which was founded in 1787, and why Lord’s is the ground that every cricketer dreams of playing the game. As a venue for the London 2012 Olympic archery tournament the class also had the opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere that this historical ground provides as a sporting venue.

The morning began with presentations on the history of Lord’s cricket ground and how it maintains the important balance of preserving its fine traditions with the need to embrace modernization. The class next had the opportunity to learn about the level of administration support that is provided by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to the England Test team during both home and overseas tours.

Following a question and answer session, the postgraduates had the chance to view the famous Ashes urn that is competed for by the England and Australia Test teams before visiting the famous main pavilion Long Room, player dressing rooms and also the distinctive Lord’s media centre.

James Panter, who is the FIFA Master Module Co-ordinator at De Montfort University and who organised the visit said, “I would like to thank Lord’s, the MCC and ECB staff for making this such an informative and memorable visit for the 13th edition class.”
