The CIES President meets Universidad Metropolitana students

The CIES President recently visited the Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET) campus in Caracas (Venezuela) in order to meet University authorities and the students taking part in the 5th edition of the UNIMET/FIFA/CIES sport management Programme.

During his visit, CIES President Bertrand Reeb met with UNIMET Rector Benjamín Scharifker, academic vice-rector Mary Carmen Lombao and administrative vice-rector María Elena Cedeño. They all emphasised the quality of their cooperation which makes it possible to train a generation of managers who are open to the new realities of the sports world.

They also paid tribute to the excellent work done by the team in charge of the Programme in Venezuela, namely Maria José Gonzalez, Rafael Espinoza and Víctor Ledezma, as well as the teaching staff.

The UNIMET Rector and the CIES President then emphasized the pioneering and visionary role played by Programme sponsors Gestión Deportiva Internacional (GDI) and its subsidiary GZ. They warmly thanked Ingrid Hernandez, Mario Hernandez and Karolina Landaeta for their essential support since the beginning of the project.

During the meeting with students in a spirit of spontaneity and friendship, Bertrand Reeb congratulated the three winners of the 2015 FIFA/CIES Network Prize for their project entitled “Comprehensive baseball academy, training citizens to serve society” before ending his visit by wishing the UNIMET/CIES partnership a long and successful life: “We should continue to implement our education project and work together to preserve the many positive aspects of sport as well as its dignity both in Venezuela and everywhere else in the world!”
