The General Secretary of the Polish Squash Federation speaks about the KU/FIFA/CIES Programme

Recently appointed as the General Secretary of the Polish Squash Federation, Jakub Zalotynski gives his impressions on the KU/FIFA/CIES Programme organised in cooperation with Kozminski University in Warsaw.

Why did you choose the FIFA/CIES Programme in Sports Management organized in cooperation with Kozminski University?

Having professional experience in a sporting environment (cooperation with sponsors, event management on local and international levels) – I was convinced that this Programme was something for me. I was already a certified sport manager but I knew that studying at Kozminski University would help me with developing my skills further. I joined the third edition of the Programme, whilst at the same time working for the Polish Squash Federation, and managing the central office.

What was your highlight of the course?

There are several elements. I can mention the theoretical and practical knowledge, participation in discussions and exchanging opinions with experts from various sports fields. From my point of view, and what was especially important, is the networking with lecturers, experts, alumni and fellow students.

Why is it so important?

Last year, along with three students from the third edition and with the support of Kozminski University, we launched the idea of regular networking meetings for alumni from all editions of the Programme. It is a great opportunity to meet people from various groups and exchange experiences and views. It may also lead to future sporting development in our country.

Furthermore, thanks to the KU/FIFA/CIES Programme, I had the unique chance to meet such people as Gianni Infantino, Javier Zanetti and Leonardo Araujo. This was during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, at the HSE/CIES/FMA conference “Sport and Future” organized in cooperation with the Football Union of Russia. Alumni from the Programme were given a special invitation to attend this event.

Shortly after graduating, you were promoted to the post of General Secretary at the Polish Squash Federation. Has the KU/FIFA/CIES Programme contributed to your professional career?

I have been representing Poland at World and European Squash Federation General meetings since 2016. For sure, the experience I gained during my studies has been very useful in this international environment. I have served as General Secretary of the Polish Squash Association since June 2018. The KU/FIFA/CIES Programme in Sports Management diploma, along with the fact that our project represented Poland at FIFA/CIES Network Prize competition, is now definitely an important part of my professional CV.
