URJC: Course on the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)

Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC), academic partner of the International Centre for Sport Studies (CIES) in Spain, will organise a basic course on the legal aspects and functioning of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) from February to June 2016. A limited number of students/alumni from the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management and  the “FIFA/Master” can receive invitations to attend this course free of charge.

Since it was established, CAS has gained legitimacy in dealing with sporting disputes (doping, contract litigations, disciplinary decisions, etc.). Therefore, URJC – through its Chair in Study and Research in Sport Law – has decided to organise a course that will allow participants to gain a better understanding of the legal aspects and functioning related to cases submitted to CAS. Among the topics to be discussed will be: CAS creation and evolution, the various appeal and mediation procedures lodged to CAS, applicable law and provisional measures within the framework of CAS procedures, how to prepare CAS hearings, how to enforce CAS decisions or how to appeal to the Swiss High Court (Tribunal fédéral Suisse).

The course will be taught in Spanish.

Interested students and alumni of the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management and of the FIFA Master can submit applications to Désirée Garcia (désiré[email protected]) by 22 January 2016 (name, surname, address, mobile phone number, e-mail, profession, educational background, university that delivered the FIFA/CIES Programme certificate/diploma)
