Venezuela: CIES renews its partnership with Universidad Metropolitana

Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET) and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) renewed their partnership for a further two years during a ceremony organised last week on the university campus in Caracas. Moreover, the company Gestión Deportiva International (GDI) and its subsidiary GZ, who have been FIFA/CIES Programme sponsors in Venezuela for four years now, signed a new agreement with CIES to ensure financing of classes in 2014 and 2015.

The ceremony took place in the presence of UNIMET Rector Benjamín Scharifker as well as Mercedes de la Oliva Fernández and Mary Carmen Lombao, respectively academic vice-rector and general secretary of the University. GDI and GZ were represented by Mario Hernández Cova and Karolina Landaeta, who have constantly supported the FIFA/CIES Programme since 2010.

“It is a great pleasure to renew a partnership focused on respect and friendship. In my view, our work together is a success that benefits sport in Venezuela” exclaimed Benjamín Scharifker. “Moreover, I am delighted to work with CIES as their key objective coincides with that of UNIMET, namely training people recognised for their ethical values, professional skills and desire to contribute to the development of society.”

For his part, the CIES representative thanked UNIMET for its support at the highest institutional level and emphasised the excellent work done with the University over the last few years, both regarding the high quality of courses and the excellent recruitment of students. He also emphasised the partnership with GDI and GZ, companies that did pioneering and visionary work to make training of sports managers possible in Venezuela.

Mario Hernández Cova, representing GDI and GZ, concluded by paying tribute to this “three-party” alliance which, little by little, is making it possible to change mentalities, work methods and thereby improve the management of sports entities in Venezuela.

All our thanks to the UNIMET authorities, to Maria José Gonzalez, Rafael Espinoza, Víctor Ledezma, Ingrid Hernández Cova, Mario Hernández Cova and Karolina Landaeta.
