VENEZUELA: RENEWAL OF PARTNERSHIP WITH UNIMET

CIES and the Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET) renewed their partnership agreement for the organization of the FIFA / CIES Programme on 17 September in Caracas. Continuation of the project, which started in 2010, is made possible through the support of GZ Gerencia Deportiva Internacional (GZ), a consulting company specializing in sports, which aims  to improve sport management in Venezuela.

It is under the aegis of Benjamín Scharifker, rector of UNIMET that the contract was signed in the presence of representatives from academia and the media. The rector emphasized the importance of such a partnership for UNIMET: "In a world that is undergoing a profound crisis of values, continuous and profound changes, education is an essential dimension. It allows us to better understand our environment, be guided by certain basic principles. (...). Our cooperation with CIES and GZ gives us the opportunity to train young people in the field of sport which has too long been neglected by the academic world".

CIES also took the opportunity to renew its collaboration with GZ. On this occasion, Mario Hernández, vice president of GZ and a former student of the first edition of the FIFA / CIES Programme in Venezuela, said: "We want to contribute to the development of national sport by proposing an ambitious Programme orientated to “professionalize” managers in Venezuelan sports. As a former student, I can assure you that the FIFA / CIES Programme meets this objective. It has allowed me to improve the management of sporting activities in which I am involved".

UNIMET also kicked off the third edition of the FIFA / CIES Programme in which twenty seven students will participate.
