First of all we would like to extend a warm thank you to all Partners, Ambassadors, Speakers, Exhibitors and Participants for the amazing contribution to the first ever International Convention for Careers in Sports - WISE Work In Sports Exhibition!
We are happy to share with you a few insights now that the event is over. For a first edition, we are extremely proud to announce the following numbers :

OPENING GALA NIGHT – 6 MAY
The inaugural WISE Work In Sports Exhibition has opened with a gala evening reuniting many of the world's top sports leaders.
Moderated by Denis Oswald, Member of the IOC and CIES Director, the round-table co-organised by Centre International d'Etude du Sport (CIES) on the topic "Brazil, from FIFA World Cup 2014 to 2016 Olympic Games. The legacy of major sporting events", has been a great success.
The speakers (see full list below), especially Jérôme Valcke, FIFA General Secretary, have been challenged on the sustainability and security challenges engendered by sports events at a large scale and their legacy.

Before joining a cocktail, participants attended the Official Opening of WISE, in the presence of Philippe Leuba, State Councillor and Marc Vuilleumier, Municipal Representative.
David Wise, the first ever men’s Olympic gold medallist in halfpipe freestyle skiing, also participated to the inaugural ceremony.
WEDNESDAY WISE FEVER – 7 MAY
On the second evening, the “Wednesday WISE Fever” set a milestone for further editions and the first ever WISE Award was presented to Christophe Dubi, Deputy Olympic Games Executive Director.
After a very interesting session of questions and answers between IOC’s and athletes’ representatives, moderated by our beloved ambassador Colin Jackson, Athletics Legend and Sports Media Professional, the awards night started. Here are the results:

Sport & Development The role sport can play in helping developing countries was one of the main topics on the Sport & Development theme. Our Forum Partner Vale in Switzerland, through the President of Vale International, Fidel Blanco, presented its Brasil Vale Ouro project. This project was created five years ago and involves 2’500 children in five Brazilian states. It is designed to promote the development of life skills, capacities and competencies among children and teenagers, using sport as an essential social and education tool to this end. Vale is also the main partner of Association Trako, which develops the judo activities in the public schools of Switzerland. Raphaël Morgulis, Information Manager, FIFA also gave a presentation on the importance of developing sustainable projects in sports. Leaders in Sport The leaders in sport, such as Debbie Jevans, Director of Sport London 2012 & Chief Executive, Rugby World Cup 2015, Martin Gibbs, Director, UCI and Patrick Baumann, Secretary General, FIBA, among others, have discussed at length what it takes to be a success at the highest level. “It was a very constructive event which highlighted the importance of acquiring and retaining talent,” said Will Lloyd, GlobalSportsJobs CEO. “The opportunity to bring together key Human Resource figures from the sports industry to discuss challenges we all face is an integral part of understanding how we can become more professional as an industry. The WISE audience recognised the importance of technology and the additional value it is bringing to the talent acquisition process. The ability to attract a greater quality of applications through greater reach is increasing the capability and performance of organisations across the sporting landscape. Challenges in addressing volumes has been brought to the forefront, and investment in appropriate technology will ensure sport organisations can accurately manage their hiring processes and engage the most suitable professionals without the burden of improper applications.” |
| Career Transition The challenges faced by athletes transitioning to a career after their competition days are over has been a key talking point. Great participation has been registered in the Presentation Series on “Valuable Insights from the Athlete Career Programme” from Patrick Glennon, Vice President "Athlete Career Programme" for the IOC, Adecco. Education Education for a career in sport has been a leading topic of discussion at the inaugural WISE sports conference in the Swiss city of Lausanne. Key players such as Claude Stricker, Executive Director of AISTS and Vincent Schatzmann, Secretary General of CIES, both our academic partners, have given insights on the importance of having a multidisciplinary knowledge to be a good professional in the sports industry. Marketing & Sponsorship Some of the biggest names from the world of sports marketing and sponsorship shared their thoughts on this dynamic and fast moving industry. Jean-Claude Biver’s (Chairman of Hublot’s Administrative Board) and Sébastien Leclerc’s (Head of Club Competitions Commercial Operations, UEFA) presentations in particular draw a lot of participation and discussions as they are amazingly inspiring people. A lot of questions were also asked to the President of Rio 2016, Carlos Arthur Nuzman. Sports Sciences The role sport can play in developing sports sciences was interestingly discussed with Jean-Pierre Egger, Physical Trainer & Olympic Coach and representatives from the Sports Institute of the University of Lausanne, among other universities and institutes represented. |
Other highlights include the very committed implication of WISE ambassador Colin Jackson, from whom we used all skills and expertise as motivational speaker, moderator, entertainer, friend, etc… follow him behind-the-scenes through his first full day at the inaugural WISE convention.
