World Rowing Award Success for CIES Director and FIFA Master Student

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) was proud to have links with two international rowing award recipients last week.

The prestigious 2014 World Rowing Awards were presented in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the 2014 World Rowing Coaches Conference gala dinner.

CIES Director Professor Denis Oswald received the 2014 World Rowing Distinguished Service to Rowing Award. Prof. Oswald was Secretary General of the World Rowing Federation (FISA) for 11 years and President of FISA for 25 years before retiring earlier this year.

The CIES was also delighted when 15th edition CIES/FIFA International MA student Emma Twigg was named the 2014 World Rowing Female Rower of the Year. Emma, who is currently studying the first module of the International Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport (FIFA Master) at De Montfort University in Leicester, before continuing her studies at SDA Bocconi and University of Neuchâtel, had an outstanding season which included being crowned World Champion during the summer of 2014 at the World Championships in Amsterdam.

The FIFA Master Scientific Committee and partner universities would like to congratulate both Denis Oswald and Emma Twigg on their well-deserved awards.
