Dr. Stanislas Frenkiel, wins the Grand Prix UCPF 2015 Award – Category “Research”, for his publication “Une histoire des agents sportifs en France – Les impresarios du football (1979-2014)”

The CIES is proud to announce that the Grand Prix UCPF award 2015 – Category “Research”, has been awarded to Dr. Stanislas Frenkiel. Dr Frenkiel was a previous recipient of the CIES João Havelange Research Scholarship in 2012 and received this latest award for his remarkable work published by the CIES journal collections on  “Une histoire des agents sportifs en France – Les impresarios du football (1979-2014)”.

Over the past 8 years, the Professional Football Club Union (UCPF) has awarded work in two categories. Firstly, the UCPF award – Category “General Public” for the best novel, essay or document related to the topic of football. Secondly, the UCPF award – Category “Research” for the best academic contribution in the fields of law, economics, history or sociology of football.

Se glisser dans la peau d’un agent de footballeurs professionnels en 2014, c’est d’abord remettre en cause certains clichés comme la panoplie « chaussures en crocodile, cigare et grosse voiture de luxe ». Si le quotidien des agents les plus influents ressemble à celui des avocats d’affaires internationaux,  la majorité d’entre eux connaît la précarité. Qui sont ces agents en France ? Comment travaillent-ils depuis la fin des années 1970 ? Suivant quels processus socio-historiques leur milieu s’est-il créé puis transformé ? En croisant sources écrites et entretiens inédits avec des agents sportifs, Stanislas Frenkiel révèle l’histoire d’une profession décriée et pourtant décisive dans le marché des joueurs.

Socio-historien du sport, lauréat des bourses de recherche de l’UEFA et de la FIFA, Stanislas Frenkiel est spécialiste des migrations sportives internationales. Après une thèse de doctorat sur l’histoire des footballeurs professionnels algériens en France, il obtient trois qualifications de Comités nationaux universitaires: Sociologie et Démographie (CNU 19), Histoire et Civilisations (CNU 22) et STAPS (CNU 74). Outre ses activités d’enseignant et de chercheur à l’Institut des sciences du sport de l’Université de Lausanne (ISSUL), il développe des activités de diffusion scientifique en milieu carcéral.
