The President of the Scientific Committee
Professor Thomas Probst is assisted by the ScientificCommittee composed of representatives from thethree partner universities of the Master Course. He oversees the overall quality and coordination of the academic teaching within the FIFA Master and of the students’ selection and graduation. Besides his role as President of the Scientific Committee, he is emeritus Professor of Law of the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). He has published numerous contributions to various fields of private law, above all the law of obligations, contracts, torts and European private law but also legal methodology, consumer law and data protection law. He is a founding member of the FIFA Master, which he has helped to conceive and establish as Scientific Co-Director from the inception of the Master Programme in 1999 and he has been teaching Sports Law ever since. He is a qualified Swiss lawyer (admitted to the Bar) and an economist (lic. oec. HSG). He holds a PhD degree (Dr. iur., University of St. Gallen), a PD degree (University of Basel) and an LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School. He has rendered numerous legal opinions in sports-related matters and is frequently retained as legal expert in litigations before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee fulfils mainly two key roles. The first is that it ensures the overall quality and coordination of academic teaching within the programme, and the second is that it has responsibility for the selection of the postgraduates for each edition of the course.
