CIES Sports Observatory

In addition to being football oriented, mandates and research projects are also carried out through the wider remit of the CIES Sports Observatory for international organisations such as the IOC and FIBA.

The CIES Sports Observatory has teamed up since 2012 with the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) to produce an annual International Basketball Migration Report (IBMR). The IBMR provides an insight into the basketball community and the global migration of players each season. FIBA's knowledge and data on international transfers has been combined with the CIES Sports Observatory's renowned expertise in analysis to document the international migration of players for each season, as well as migratory trends and tendencies of the sport across the globe.

This type of report is a perfect example of the increased valuation of underexploited data available at sports federations. The analysis undertaken allows for the unveiling of market trends and the highlighting of new challenges from a business intelligence perspective.
