In the seventh episode of CIES Talks, host João Frigerio welcomes Áine Power, Executive Director for Sport & Games at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), for an in-depth conversation on her remarkable journey from a legal career in Ireland to a leadership role in international sport.
An alumna of the FIFA Master, Áine shares the pivotal moments that shaped her path—starting with her discovery of sports law during her undergraduate studies, her early career in corporate law, and the bold decision to pivot towards a future in sport. That leap of faith brought her to the FIFA Master programme, which she credits not only for equipping her with essential skills and knowledge but also for introducing her to a powerful global network of peers.
Since then, Áine has held legal roles in two major sports organisations - the International Boxing Association and the FEI - where she spent over a decade before stepping into her current executive position. In this new role, she is leading a strategic shift within the federation, ensuring sport remains at the heart of the organisation’s mission. Her story is one of curiosity, perseverance, and an unshakable belief in the value of sport as a force for good.
The conversation also touches on her experience as an Irish woman in sport, her reflections on the importance of diversity in leadership, and the impact of alumni-led initiatives to empower women across the industry.
