Andreas Argyropoulos

Current Position: Broadcast and Media Operations freelancer for major international sporting events.

Year of Graduation: 2002 (2nd Edition)

Nationality: Greek

What does your current role involve?

Currently, after many years in various roles in the sports industry, I work as a Broadcast and Media Operations freelancer for major international sporting events. This entails working at major sporting events and helping broadcasters and written press to have the best conditions available for them to do their job, and have as much access to players and coaches as possible. It is a really enjoyable experience, interacting with broadcasters, media, teams, athletes and organizing committees.

During this time, I have worked for Nike in Sports Marketing, and after that as a freelancer at various international events, such as six Olympic Games, FIFA World Cups (Men’s and Women’s), two Euros, Asian Games, Asian Cup, and of course Champions and Europa Leagues. I have had the pleasure of working in over ten countries and interacting with people from all over the world.

How has the FIFA Master helped you in your career?

The aspect of the FIFA Master course which has helped me the most is the greater understanding of the intricacies of sport being a global industry, and specifically where nation-building is an important factor in hosting large scale events. Also, how being a global citizen with an understanding for different cultures is very important.

During your time on the FIFA Master, you travel to three different countries with a group of students from all over the world. You learn about how sport functions globally, and especially in the key countries of England, Italy and Switzerland. The global footprint of sport and events is important, and speaking as many languages as possible is very helpful in your job search after completing the Master. It truly is an International Master, and that is priceless.

What advice would you give to future students?

My advice to future students is to experience the FIFA Master in the fullest possible way. Get to know your colleagues and other course graduates. However, don't expect that the Master will open all the doors for you. Your experience and skill in relationship building is the most important tool. You are in the door, but there is so much you still have to do when graduating. At the beginning it might feel daunting and scary, but keep searching for opportunities, knocking on doors inside the house, and, in the end, things will work out. There is so much happening in sports.
