Charisse Broome

Current Position: Writer, Reading Interventionist and an Educational Governess - Khadosh Kids TT / The Good Governess - TT

Year of Graduation: 2002 (2nd Edition)

Nationality: Trinidadian and Tobagonian

What does your current role involve?

After over a decade working in Sport Management and Administration at the University of the West Indies St. Augustine campus, I made a career shift and am currently an Educational Governess and writer.

My current role as an Educational Governess involves training and instructing primary school-aged children to become fearless, responsible leaders of their households, businesses or nations. To lead justly, with wisdom, humility, and integrity.

As a writer, I share the rich history, language, and culinary culture of Trinidad and Tobago in a manner that engages the imagination, curiosity, and wonder of children 5 – 11 years old. I have published four children's books since 2021 and have been actively and primarily promoting them through library tours in and around Trinidad and Tobago, with a few appearances in the USA.

I also established a quality, Caribbean-centred, book club - Khadosh Kids TT which focuses on enhancing reading, public speaking skills, and cultural awareness among children 6-11 yrs.

How has the FIFA Master helped you in your career?

The FIFA Master provided a valuable platform that young professionals need to forge significant business and human connections. Following the FIFA Master, I became a much bolder and more assertive woman. This has most certainly impacted the way I enter a room or interview. It expanded not only my intellect but my vision of life, my perception of the world and fuelled my desire to create a lasting difference.

What advice would you give to future students?

Be intentional. Time is short, so be very strategic and intentional about how you use your time, energy and resources. Be strategic, but also be humane. Build significant connections with the right people. Be 'the right people.' Capture every opportunity that comes your way to develop your skills, become an authority in that field in order to add value to other people's lives and businesses. Get a mentor. Understudy a successful professional in the field you are pursuing. Strive to become the most effective and valuable version of yourself, and then multiply yourself. People matter, so, prioritize investing in human capital as much as possible.
