FIFA MASTER ALUMNI - WHERE ARE THEY NOW? - DANIELE DIANA

Daniele Diana
Current Position: Senior Football Technology Manager at FIFA
Year of Graduation: 2016 (16th Edition)
Nationality: Italian
What does your current role involve?
As Senior Football Technology Manager at FIFA, I oversee the planning, implementation, and operations of cutting-edge technology systems such as VAR, Goal Line Technology, Semi-automated offside systems and electronic performance tracking across major global tournaments at both youth and senior levels.
A passionate technologist and lifelong football enthusiast, I bridge the gap between innovation and the pitch. I’ve had the privilege of contributing to the organization of over twenty-five FIFA tournaments, including Men’s and Women’s World Cups, the Olympics, and the Club World Cup.
How has the FIFA Master helped you in your career?
The FIFA Master was a game-changer. It didn’t just bring me closer to sports—it gave me the tools and confidence to dive in headfirst. I was coming from a different industry (aviation), and this program was the launchpad for my career switch into sports and football— a shift that many thought unlikely, but the program made it possible.
Then there’s the network. Unmatched. It goes far beyond just your classmates and alumni. You also connect with professors, guest speakers, and professionals from other sport management backgrounds. Over time, this exposure develops into a diverse and valuable network that can make a real difference in your career in sports."
What advice would you give to future students?
Don’t rush to the finish line, and instead enjoy the ride. The year will fly by faster than you think. It’s easy to get caught up in what comes next, such as jobs, projects and the next big career move. However, what truly matters are the moments you live along the way.
The magic isn’t just in the lectures or the projects—it’s in the people, the late-night conversations, the cultural clashes that turn into friendships, and the shared passion that brings you all together. Those moments will shape you more than any textbook ever could. Careers will follow. Opportunities will come. But the bonds you build and the memories you make - that’s what stays with you. That’s what opens doors and carries you forward. So be present, stay curious, and make it count.
