FIFA Master Alumni - Where are they now? - Guillermo Altmann
Current Position: Head of Commercial Operations at Team Sports Media + Commercial Manager at Sudamerica Rugby
Year of graduation: 2006 (6th edition)
Nationality: Uruguayan and Italian
What does your current role involve?
In my role as Head of Commercial Operations at Team Sports Media, I am involved in several key areas, including media rights negotiations, marketing, and event management. The core of our business revolves around broadcasting rights negotiations for football (Liga Uruguaya), tennis (ATP Challengers in South America), and rugby (Super Rugby Americas) across Latin America. We also create and manage our own events, where I serve as project leader for the Serie Río de la Plata and Serie Colombia—two pre-season football tournaments featuring over 30 matches each January. These events are fully organized and distributed by our team.
In addition to my role at Team Sports Media, I also serve as Commercial Manager at Sudamérica Rugby. My responsibilities include the commercialization of partnership rights, branding, look and feel, and the overall delivery of Super Rugby Americas event. I manage all sales and account management for Sudamérica Rugby and oversee Venue Management and marketing for its main competitions.
Lastly, as a freelancer, I work as a Partnerships and Marketing Venue Manager for FIFA World Cups. Each year, I take a month away from my regular duties to focus on delivering marketing rights to FIFA’s commercial affiliates during the tournament.
How has the FIFA Master helped you in your career?
The FIFA Master provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the sports industry. Although I was already certain that I wanted to work in sports, the programme broadened my perspective on the many opportunities this vast industry offers. It immersed me in an international environment alongside classmates from diverse backgrounds, which was an enriching experience in itself. Each module featured lecturers who shared first-hand insights from their careers in the sports world. We also went on field visits, giving us the chance to see how different federations, agencies, and other key stakeholders operate within the industry.
After graduation from the FIFA Master, the support of an incredibly engaged alumni network—and access to key industry contacts—played a crucial role in helping me break into the field and secure opportunities in sports.
What advice would you give to future students?
Follow your dreams and be persistent.
