Year of Graduation: 2001 (1st Edition)
Nationality: Guatemalan
What does your current role involve?
My current role is Director/Photographer/Comms Specialist at Gacela o León (@gaceleon), a dynamic communications, moving, and still images production house based in Guatemala. Since establishing @gaceleon in 2003, I have been guiding its vision and operations, delivering high-quality visual content for a diverse range of clients both within Guatemala and internationally.
At @gaceleon, my role is multifaceted, drawing upon my extensive experience in visual communication. A core aspect involves directing and overseeing all stages of film and video productions, from initial concept development and meticulous planning to the precise execution and final delivery of the project. This encompasses collaborating closely with clients to understand their specific needs and objectives, crafting compelling creative treatments, skillfully managing production teams, and ensuring that the final video product effectively communicates their message and aligns seamlessly with their overall vision.
Beyond video, I am also actively involved in creating photographic imagery, specializing in a diverse range of areas including action/sports, portrait, and commercial work. This requires not only technical proficiency in capturing high-quality images but also a keen artistic eye for composition, lighting, and storytelling. Furthermore, my professional background includes over 17 years collaborating with Red Bull, where I honed my skills in communications management and still contribute as photographer and production partner on various projects. In addition to my creative work, I develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for clients and manage @gaceleon's business operations and strategic development, ensuring its continued growth and success in the industry.

How has the FIFA Master helped you in your career?
The FIFA Master programme was a cornerstone in my professional development, providing me with a robust foundation in the core disciplines of sports administration. Its comprehensive curriculum, encompassing the legal, financial and historical dimensions of sport, significantly broadened my understanding of the industry's intricacies. This in-depth knowledge has been invaluable throughout my career, particularly in navigating projects with sports-related themes, and has sharpened my ability to capitalize on opportunities within this dynamic sector.
Beyond sports-specific knowledge, the FIFA Master was instrumental in cultivating my strategic thinking and management acumen, skills indispensable in leading Gacela o León. The programme's focus on analysis, problem-solving and decision-making has empowered my leadership. Moreover, the programme’s network remains a valuable asset: I currently provide production services for CIES, have contributed to the FIFA Master Alumni Association (FMA) at World gatherings (Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022), and will document the programme's 25th anniversary celebration at FIFA HQ in Zurich in September 2025.
What advice would you give to future students?
My primary advice to future FIFA Master students is to fully embrace the programme's unique opportunities and to immerse yourself in its enriching learning environment. I strongly encourage active engagement with the diverse background of your classmates. They will bring a wealth of experience and invaluable cultural insights to the programme. Proactive learning, both within and beyond the classroom, is also crucial for maximizing the programme's benefits. This active participation will not only enhance your understanding but also create lasting connections with your peers from around the globe.
Furthermore, it is essential to diligently apply the programme's teachings to real-world scenarios, whether through internships, volunteer work, or personal projects. This practical application will solidify your grasp of the material and effectively prepare you for the multifaceted challenges of the sports industry. Ultimately, I advise students to savor the FIFA Master experience fully. It is not merely an academic pursuit but a transformative journey of personal and professional growth, where building a robust professional network becomes a vital asset for long-term success in this dynamic field.
