FIFA MASTER ALUMNI - WHERE ARE THEY NOW? - KHAIR RIZAUDDIN
Khair Rizauddin
Current Position: Manager, Sports Division, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth
Year of graduation: 2021 (21st Edition)
Nationality: Singaporean
What does your current role involve?
I am currently with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) here in Singapore. Our mission is to inspire the Singapore spirit and foster national unity and pride. Sport plays a pivotal role in that. Singapore sport has a rich history and we want to continue writing it.
As part of the Sports Division of the MCCY, we have six core strategies to create a vibrant sporting culture. These are, broad-based participation, high performance, athlete support, disability sport, world class facilities and hosting international sporting events. My role, as part of the high-performance team, looks into policies and ways in which we can better support national athletes in their quest for sporting excellence.
Which aspects of the FIFA Master course have helped you most in your career?
The FIFA Master programme was timely in my career development. It helped to build on the experiences I had from working as part of the local football fraternity. It opened the door for me to better understand the international sporting landscape. The programme challenged my thinking and understanding. As a result, it helped me to look at my own local sporting eco-system more critically and identify gaps and potential solutions.
I also really enjoyed the social side of the FIFA Master during my studies. Being able to meet people from all walks of life was not only a unique experience, but it also gave me a fresh perspective and window into the diverse cultures and backgrounds the world has to offer.
What advice would you give to future students on the course?
My greatest piece of advice would to be to go into the FIFA Master with an open mind and an open heart. You will truly be amazed at what you can learn from your classmates, professors, guest speakers and alumni. Don’t be afraid to contribute in class by bringing your own culture and experiences as discussion examples. Definitely showcase these on this great adventure.
Finally, take some time to enjoy the cities you will live in as well. Each one has something unique to offer. I wish you all the best and I look forward to welcoming you to the alumni network!
