Shalini Krishnan

Current Position: Project Manager, Indoor Volleyball. Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB)

Year of Graduation: 2016 (16th Edition)

Nationality: Canadian

What does your current role involve?

As part of the Indoor Volleyball department at FIVB, I contribute to ensuring the technical integrity of the sport and the smooth execution of everything taking place on the field of play.

My primary focus involves overseeing all aspects of Technical Officials, from nomination and logistics to the strategic development and implementation of the Technical Delegate Training Programme - designed to elevate the skills, knowledge, and professionalism of the highest-level FIVB representatives present at our events.

Within the department, we also manage the technical operations at all FIVB events including the annual Volleyball Nations League, 8 biannual World Championships and the Olympic Games, and I am currently collaborating with all internal departments and external stakeholders (Local Organizers and teams) for the Volleyball Nations League and Women’s World Championship, to ensure seamless delivery of these key events.

Which aspects of the FIFA Master course have helped you most in your career?

Having worked in sport prior to the FIFA Master, I was looking to broaden my horizons and gain a more global understanding of the international sport landscape - and the FIFA Master did just that. The curriculum offered an in-depth exploration of the international sporting landscape that greatly influenced my career trajectory. The programme's wide range of topics provided essential fundamentals of the major pillars of sport, and specifically learning about the operations and opportunities within international sport federations sparked an interest, eventually leading to roles at UEFA, FIH and FIVB.

In addition to knowledge gained through the course, the support and connections made through the FIFA Master alumni network are invaluable and continue to bring added value to both my personal and professional life, even 9 years later.

What advice would you give to future students?

My advice to future FIFA Master students is to fully immerse yourselves in this unparalleled opportunity to connect with people from all nationalities in a setting like no other. Take the time to appreciate every element of the course—from the inspiring lectures to the cultural exchanges with classmates to the unique experience of living in three different countries in one year. Also, try not to get overly caught up in future career planning. The year will pass quickly, so cherish the experience and let it transform you in ways you never expected.
