Poland: Kozminski University students explore the world of sport

FIFA/CIES International Programme in Sports Management
13 December 2025

The 10th edition of the FIFA/CIES International Programme in Sport Management, organised by Kozminski University (KU), currently brings together twenty-six enthusiastic sports lovers. Although they have only just begun their studies, the students have already had valuable opportunities to experience behind the scenes of the industry. Recently, the new cohort took part in several activities, including classes held at the PGE Narodowy stadium and an ‘observer’ programme during a volleyball match.

The group of students kicked off with a tour of the PGE Narodowy stadium, Poland's most modern multifunctional arena. This nearly two-hour visit allowed participants to explore key areas related to venue management and the organisation of major events. They discovered premium sky boxes, the control room, the pitch area, the mixed zone, conference areas, dressing rooms and even the stadium's chapel and holding cell.

After this ‘exploration’, they attended sessions led by the stadium's operations managers. Michał Gościcki, a Security Specialist, addressed the issue of stadium safety, while Ewa Ostaszewska, Corporate Partnerships and Branding Coordinator, talked about corporate partnership, on site commercial branding, as well as premium sales.

The second day was just as enriching. Following classes on management, AI and finance, the students headed to Torwar Arena to get a closer look at the preparations for a top-tier volleyball match. Before the PLUS LIGA match between PGE Projekt Warszawa and Ślepsk Suwałki, they had the unique opportunity to meet two club representatives: Natalia Kaleta, Director of Operations, and Piotr Iwańczyk, Director of Communications and Press Officer. Both shared their insightful knowledge of the world of volleyball, sports operations, finance, sponsorship, merchandising, event organisation and match day logistics.

Finally, a few days before the second weekend of face-to-face classes, five volunteers from the group participated in ‘behind the scenes’ activities during the 35th edition of the ‘Independence Run’ in Warsaw. They gained hands-on experience by supporting the event office, assisting with sponsorship coordination and working alongside the timekeeping team.

Congratulations to Kozminski University and the local CIES Coordinator for organising these visits and events, which offered students unique opportunities to immerse themselves in the practical realities of sports management.
